A past time that escaped my memory until seeing it play out before me, was when we were kids in Christchurch, Aotearoa. Our Oma and Opa lived across the road from a lake. We’d collect the ends of the loaves that no one wanted and keep them to go feed the family of ducks living by the nearby tree. I remember feeling a sense of responsibility and pride in watching the ducklings grow. Unlocking this file stored somewhere deep, an overwhelming feeling of gratitude was most prominent. Gratitude for the way nature works, without human interference and gratitude for our Oma- something some simple in the company of loved ones being something you hold a lifetime.
